Hon. Soipan Tuya ,Narok County MP preside over the launch of the Inaugural Youth Assembly Report

Our able Women Rep Hon. Soipan Tuya ,Narok County MP  preside over the launch of the Inaugural Youth Assembly Report in the company of among others, HE Ambassador Ole Thonke, Royal Danish Ambassador to Kenya and Hon. Sen. J. Sakaja, Chair of the KYPA.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union statistics show that although young people make up the majority of the world’s population, fewer than 2 per cent of all MPs are under the age of 30. It is equally indisputable that democracies will emerge stronger if legislatures are representative of all groups, including young people.
This is a culmination of an elaborate process of promoting meaningful youth participation in governance processes during Covid-19.

GOVERNOR TUNAI LEADS NAROK COUNTY IN THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE BBI SIGNATURE COLLECTION DRIVE

Narok County has today joined the rest of the Counties in kicking off the official BBI signature collection drive. The BBI signature collection exercise is a pre-requisite for the entrenchment into law of the Constitution Amendment Bill as drafted in the BBI report. The BBI ushers in a very vital economic as well as political moment in the history of Kenya.

Some of the notable issues in the BBI include: Equity and Equality; Inclusivity and Cohesiveness; Equal opportunity for all regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion; and matters reform.

Speaking during the event, Governor Samuel Kuntai Ole Tunai urged members of the Narok County Assembly to be the first to approve the Bill to ensure smooth delivery of the report to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“For the first time in the history of Kenya, Wards will have an allocation of 5% of revenue, therefore our County Assemblies need to support this Bill," said the Governor. He added that the BBI Bill will ensure the independence of the County Assemblies since their revenue will go directly to them from the Government ex-chequer thereby enabling them to carry out proper and independent oversight without any form of interference.

He added that the devolved units were the biggest beneficiaries of the initiative considering the fact that the County revenue allocation will be increased from 15% to 35%.

The Bill also envisages the creation of a Youth Commission which will ensure that matters relating to economic empowerment of the Youth are adequately handled.

"Narok County stands a chance of gaining three (3) more Constituencies if the bill is passed into law hence the need for everyone else to support the BBI," added the Governor.

Governor Tunai called for inclusivity and fair representation of all the residents of Narok County.

Present during the launch was the Speaker, Narok County Assembly Nkoidila Ole Lankas and a host of Members of County Assembly led by Majority Leader Benard Torome.
