I’ll go for Narok gubernatorial seat come 2022, declares PS Charles Sunkuli

Devolution PS Charles Sunkuli has declared he will run for Narok gubernatorial seat in the next general election.

Speaking after meeting Ololmasani elders at Olchobose shrine in Transmara East sub county on Saturday, Sunkuli said that he is best suited to succeed Governor Samuel Tunai, whose second and final term comes to an end in 2022, having served in different capacities in the government unlike his competitors.

"Narok County should bank on me because I have the capability to manage the vast resources of the county given the experience I gained while serving in different positions,” said Sunkuli.

In attendance were Ololmasani MCA Richard Keter, his Lolgorian counterpart Michael Seme and former Ilkerin MCA Ezekiel Koskei.

He added that a governor should be a development conscious leader who should work for the people while ensuring their access to better services.

“The true measure of leadership is how we cause people to believe in themselves and inspire them to have a reason and motivation to want to work hard to better their lives,” he said.

The PS also noted that the county has vast resources which if well utilized will improve the lives of the people greatly.

“Given the chance to lead, Narok County will leap forward to be the most developed county in the country. Why should people live in abject poverty when they have wealth at their doorsteps? He asked.

Sunkuli said that he will serve all the people without favourism and negligence.
“Narok is Cosmopolitan County that incorporates all tribes and races and the leadership should be inclusive to ensure free interaction, peace and unity,” he remarked.
He pledged to protect the interests of all tribes residing in the county and his administration will be fair to all.

Prior to his appointment as the Principal Secretary, Sunkuli worked with Ewaso Ng’iro South River Development Authority (ENSDA) where he rose through the ranks to become the Managing Director from 2010-2016.

He has a wealth of experience in Public Service spanning over 18 years.

Sunkuli is an experienced management strategist with a solid background in Administration, Planning, Management and Leadership.

He holds two Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration (EMBA) from Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI) and Maastricht School of Management (MSM) Netherlands, a Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed. Arts) from Moi University. He has also undertaken various specialized training including Procurement Standards and Socio-Economic Development, Governance and Godly leadership in the United States of America (USA) among many others.

Ololmasani council of elders chairman John Tonui pledged to support Sunkuli’s bid saying he has initiated a lot of projects in the area.

So far apart from Sunkuli, other leaders who have declared interest in the seat include Labour CAS Patrick Ntutu and Narok West legislator Gabriel Tongoyo.

Others with high prospects of joining the race for the top seat include Narok Woman Representative Soipan Kudate, Narok South MP Korei ole Lemein and Senator Ledama ole Kina.
